(Giveaway closed) I'll use the random number generator to pick a winner. I will announce the winner in this post on the morning of September 5th!

Sewing project: plush piggy

Last week my sister turned 25. I can't believe how old we are getting! When we were little she loved Charlotte's Web. She had tons of pig everything. She even had a cat named Charlotte after the heroic spider in the book. A few weeks back I found a vintage Charlotte's Web book and wanted to make a pig stuffed animal to go with it for her birthday gift. It will be a sweet thing for her to save for her kids. I made it out of vintage hankies. I just started cutting pieces out and sewing things together not knowing exactly how it would turn out. Owen loved it when it was finished so I think that means it turned out great! He was always finding it and running off with it. I hope her kids will enjoy it someday too!

Sewing project: aprons

My latest sewing project was a set of matching cooking aprons for best friends. Zoey and Charlotte are two of Owen's little buddies and they both just had their 2nd birthdays. I used a vintage table runner I got during our antique store outings. I hope they make lots of fun memories wearing their aprons in the kitchen with their mommas.
This is a picture of Owen and Zoey at her 2nd birthday party. I glanced over to see them like this under a tree. Its so sweet that he is down on one knee. Too cute!

Owen's vintage circus 1st birthday: his gift

His birthday gift from mommy and daddy was a quilt I made out of the leftover fabric from his party decorations. Quilted squares on the front and bunting flags on the back. A special way for him to have something to keep from his 1st birthday. We can tell him stories from his party, the juggling, the colorful gum balls, Grandma reading the Circus Ship and all the friends and family that love him so much.

My mom gave me my first sewing machine for my birthday in June. It has been fun creating things for Owen's party and gifts for friends over these two months. The thing I learned about making quilts is that being precise each step of the way pays off. Each time I did not sew in a straight line or cut something the wrong size it effected other areas of the quilt. If you can go along slowly and carefully it turns out pretty good. I found this tutorial for the bunting on the back and used it as a guide. Now that I have made a small quilt I want to try and make a bigger one for us to use on picnics.

Sewing project: a blanket

One of my best friends little girl had her 2nd birthday this past weekend. I wanted to get her something special for her birthday. I had not been able to decide until I found this adorable lemon fabric. Isn't it so cute? The theme of Annabelle's party was a pink lemonade picnic so I decided to make her a picnic blanket. I had not sewn for several years but am started up again. I have been doing fun projects for Owen's first birthday! (I'm excited to show you those soon) I definitely bought a seam ripper while making this blanket but was very excited with how it turned out. The best part is that Annabelle loved it!

When I started Annabelle's blanket I was borrowing my moms sewing machine. My sister and I have been borrowing it back and forth for different little things we have been making. For my birthday this past week, when we had our family dinner, I opened my gift from my parents and it was a sewing machine! I was completely surprised and so loved. It will be a special thing to have from my parents. I have a lot of memories from when I was little of sewing halloween costumes and other fun crafts with my mom. I'm sure I will get a lot of use out of it. I have already used it everyday since I got it!

Have you ever tried sewing anything? What have you made? I'm excited to finish up Owen's birthday projects, his birthday gift and then make something fun with the vintage fabric I got last week. If you haven't ever tried sewing you should try it! Its really not that hard!
