Cooped up and reading: books we love

We have been all cooped up lately. Owen was so sick for a whole week. These last couple of days I have been letting him rest and recover so his little body can get back to normal. We have spent a lot of time in the house, reading, sleeping, watching TV, and just sitting on the couch together. I am so grateful he is better now. I keep saying what a relief it is to feel his body and it not be hot with a fever. Paul was out of town this weekend and Owen and I had been in the house too much so we went on a mommy and baby date. We went downtown and looked around at some shops and then stopped at a coffee shop, he got a cup of whip cream and I got an iced decaf mocha. We had a wonderful day together but now we are ready for daddy to come home.

In honor of being cooped up and reading a lot of books I thought I would share some that we love. What is one of your favorite children's books?

-Kiss Good Night "And she bent way down, kissing Sam once and twice and then twice more."
-Welcome to the Zoo A picture book with no words. I love the illustrations and so does Owen.
-Toy Boat "A little boy had a toy boat. He made it from a can, a cork, a yellow pencil, and some white cloth."
-Bear Snores On "Ho, Mouse! says Hare. Long time, no see! So they pop white corn. And they brew black tea."
-The Loud Book "There are lots of louds: Spilling your marbles in the library loud."
-Little Bunny Follows His Nose A scratch and sniff book. "Hop, hop, hop, Little Bunny followed his nose across a big field to a clump of green trees."

Easter sunday

A few photos from our Easter Sunday. We started our morning early, as usual, when Owen woke up. Paul read the story of the death and resurrection of Jesus to Owen from the Jesus Storybook Bible. We lead him into his room, after our story time, and he found his Easter basket and a small egg hunt. Paul and I had so much fun the night before getting everything all set up and hiding the eggs. He actually found a few of the eggs on his own. He was very interested in the shredded paper nests. Then we headed off to celebrate with all of our friends at church. When church was over we packed a picnic and drove to a mountain for a lunch in the wild flowers. Grandma did a fun easter egg hunt for him in the grass. To finish the night off we headed to my parents house for a fancy dinner. We had a beautiful day celebrating with family and friends!

What did you do for Easter?!

Books with our boy

I feel like the holidays have officially started! We have the week off for Thanksgiving and then Christmas will be here so soon! We started the night off with a decaf iced mocha and then spent time with our boy. I love getting to snuggie with my little bug, so soft in his comfy cozy pajamas. Thanks for the jammies Brittany, Kicky Pants are the softest! Paul spent a long time reading books to Owen. We got out his Christmas books, Corduroy's Merry Christmas and The Polar Express. I still want to get Bear Stays Up for ChristmasThe Sweet Smell of Christmas, and one of the sweetest Christmas books, Mortimer's Christmas Manger. I think Paul likes reading the books with him as much as he does. At one point while I was making dinner I looked over at Paul as he was animatedly reading, "I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am". I'm sure Owen loves looking at the pictures and hearing daddy talking so funny, and of course eating the books is always fun. Paul and I often find our selves randomly saying things like, "Bog, Bog Bog, said the Frog" or "Mommy calls me Peekaboo...her bouncy baby roo" as we are doing things around the house. I guess this is what happens when you have a little one, you get words to books stuck in your head.

We leave for San Diego on Monday to visit Paul's family. It will be Owen's first flight and big trip. Before then we have a thanksgiving banquet, christmas preview, celebrating Paul's birthday with my family and getting all packed up to go!

Shower the people you love with love: a book shower

I went to my friend Robin's baby shower this weekend! The theme was "Shower the people you love with love". The room was decorated with Dick and Jane, colorful umbrellas and cute rain boots. Everyone brought a favorite children's book as their gift. I love children's books! I was excited to see what books everyone picked! I chose "The Treasure" from the Rip Squeak series. I love the beautiful illustrations! If you have a little one here are some books from the shower!
