A trip to the farm

When I was younger, every fall, my family went to the Books Family Farm to pick out pumpkins. Several years ago the family decided to stop hosting a big pumpkin patch. When it came time for Owen's first halloween I was a little sad to not get to take him to Books. We found a new place in town to that we have enjoyed these past two years. I was so excited when I heard that Books Family Farm started doing field trips.

Owen's first field trip! It was such a fun outing with friends. Mr. Book took us on a walk around the farm and told us all about the farm animals, turkeys, pigs, chickens and cows. Owen was so excited. Before we even got started he was chasing the chickens all around. He got to pet a cow and hear a turkey gobble. I think his favorite part was when they asked the kids to help clean up the almonds, still in there husks, that had dropped from at tree. Owen loved picking up the "balls" and throwing them in the bucket. He is such a good helper! He didn't want to stop when it was time to move on to the next thing. He got to quietly go in the chicken coop and collect an egg. At the end of the time they had the kids go out into a small patch of pumpkins and pick one out. He and his friends, with their rain boots and knit hats on, tromping around the field! So adorable!

My pumpkin

Its pumpkin time. I couldn't believe it when I looked back at the pumpkin patch pictures from last year. It was one of my first blog posts, my third to be exact, titled "my little pumpkin". I figure this year we will leave out the "little" part, because look how much bigger he is! Last year he was just sitting in the wagon and this year he preferred "pulling" someone else in the wagon, like GG. We had a picnic lunch in the garden and then went out to find our pumpkins. Owen had fun running around and exploring. He really likes our pumpkin, its tall and skinny just like him. He thought all of the little pumpkins were balls and just wanted to throw them..which is not a good thing to do with pumpkins. We had a great time at the pumpkin patch! Have you gotten a pumpkin yet!?

My Little Pumpkin

We had a fun family outing to the pumpkin patch today. I have so many fun memories of going to a pumpkin patch when I was growing up. I think it is the first time Owen has been covered in dirt, such a boy. Paul had fun showing him the farm animals. Papa pushed him through the patch and made sure he was shaded. Grandma picked out his first pumpkin. Owen was mesmerized by the pumpkins. He couldn't wait to touch them and of course try and suck on them. It is exciting to make fun family memories with Owen. Next year I'm sure he will get much dirtier and have even more fun!
