Rocks, sticks and dirt

When we do something with Owen that we did when he was younger it shows me how much he has grown. Last weekend we were on a hike and Owen was enjoying the views from daddy's shoulders in the backpack. As I looked at him I noticed how far down his legs were dangling compared to the previous time he was in that backpack. He is getting so big!

He had a grand time. It was his perfect playground, rocks, sticks and lots of dirt. He had brown snot for days afterwards. He enjoyed rock climbing in his jammies with mommy and looking at bugs, still in jammies, with daddy (to ease your worries, the caterpillar was not harmed). He has no fear of water, which ended in wet shoes several times. He loves to be outside. He had fun with his Grandma collecting sticks and trying to eat rocks. What is one of your favorite things to do on a weekend off?

Babywearing

These are some of my favorite photos of Paul and Owen (although I could probably say that about every photo of the two of them). I love the one of Paul leaning up against a pole with Owen asleep and the last one with those chubby cheeks just melts my heart. These were taken in and around Seattle on our way to a family reunion several weeks ago.

Before having Owen I thought the idea of babywearing was so sweet. Carrying a little one around on busy streets or in your home, all nestled in close. Paul and I both love wearing Owen. Do you wear your baby? Does your husband? What is your favorite kind of carrier/sling?

We are wearing an Ergobaby carrier. We just got it this summer and have absolutely loved it! When Owen was a newborn I used a Moby Wrap I got as a shower gift and then we got a sling. I would love to hear about your babywearing adventures.

When friends come to town

We were so excited to have friends from college come to visit us. Lauren was my best friend in college. We spent so much time together, we did everything together. One time we even signed up for a ballet class because we planned on attending the first class in leggings and a tutu just to be funny and then dropping the class (we chickened out). I will always be grateful for her! She made me laugh, she was there when I needed someone to cry with or someone to celebrate with! We were in each others weddings and then moved into the same apartment complex (we could wave at each other from our porches!) and then three years ago we moved 1,820 miles away from each other. We have kept up over the phone but when she called and told me they were coming to visit I was thrilled. We loved showing them around our town and some of our favorite surrounding areas. The four of us (and Owen) had so much fun!!! Thanks for coming and visiting us Lauren and Cacey! I love you Lauren and always will!

The san diego zoo

After the wedding we couldn't leave San Diego without going to the San Diego Zoo. None of us had ever been and it is something my mom has wanted to do her whole life. I wish you could have been there to see the excitement Owen had for all the animals. One of his favorite things in the world are animals. Big eyes, squeals and lots of pointing, he absolutely loved it! He especially loved the little monkeys, the baby jaguars and every kind of bird. He was a little afraid of the hippo and the mama jaguar, can you blame him? I'm so grateful for my family and the fun that we have together.
