Owen had a great halloween. He woke up to Ah-ma over his bed with an orange sprinkle cookie and a new Corduroy book. He wasn't too thrilled about wearing his costume but he had a blast filing up his little bag with candy with all of his friends. He had a cold leading up to halloween so I knew it would probably be one of those days we just had to go with the flow. He had been so excited telling everyone he was going to be an eagle the week before. He would run around and squake a great imitation of a hawk, "GAW GA-GA!!" I was a little sad he didn't get to wear his costume but he melted my heart that night as we laid in bed talking about the day...
Me "what was your favorite costume you saw today?"
Owen "the eagle!"
Me "the one mommy made you?"
Owen "my not wear it"
Me "maybe tomorrow"
Owen "maybe tomorrow!" and he fell asleep.
Owen had a grand time with Paul's family. We all did. We came together on the California coast and stayed on a farm for several days. Reading old coffee table books at night, playing cars on the wooden floors and going on adventures in the woods to look for frogs and rabbits. I'm glad Owen got that fun time with his Uncles and Auntie and Grandpa and Grandma Wo. We missed you Andy and Cassia!
His first haircut. Paul and I haven't been in a hurry to get his wispy baby hair cut. I didn't know if we ever would. :) I went in to get my hair done last week and we decided we would take Owen in too. Sitting on daddys lap and playing with a squirt bottle and comb helped the process, and of course some jelly beans. Just a little trim around the ears and a bit off the back and front. My hair dresser I've had most of my life, Tammi, was the perfect one to do it. We wouldn't even let her use the trimmers. Others may not notice a difference, it still hangs over his ears a bit, but to Paul and I it was a big step.
I love this picture of my sister and I. Celebrating her and her baby boy at her shower was so special. We have been able to do so many different things together in life as sisters. I love that now we will have both been able to experience the process of having a baby. When I found out that she was pregnant it took me a while to realize that I was going to be an Aunt. I was the first one in our family to have a baby and didn't realize that I wasn't an Auntie yet! I will love being an Aunt. I will love raising kids together and love that our kids can be friends just like we are. Amy and her adorable baby bumped arrived at her shower looking gorgeous. It was a beautiful day with lots of loving friends, tiny baby clothes and meaningful conversations. Now we will wait for the day baby boy decides to arrive. I can't wait.
"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013."
Owen: He wanted a "pen", which means he wants to color. He communicates so much. He even pointed at a black and white fluffy bird on a puzzle yesterday and said "ostrich!". I don't know who taught him that one. :)
