Venturing out with solids

Owen is venturing out in his eating. He can gobble up just about anything...that he likes. He would eat bread and fruit all day if he could. I'm sure a lot of us can identify with that. Banana and Strawberry are some of his favorites. He still loves to nurse but we have been offering him food also. He doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with pureed baby food anymore. He prefers feeding himself. I am looking forward to picking up some fresh fruits and veggies at the farmers market on Thursday. I would really like to find some healthy baby friendly recipes to make for him. I saw some spinach, pineapple, banana, orange juice and flax meal popsicles on Instagram that looked like a yummy treat. What recipes do your kids love? What things did your one year old like? Any favorite websites or cook books I should look at?

Not banana

After Owen had rice cereal for a couple of days, and loved it, we were excited to let him try something new. His doctor said banana was a good place to start. I was so exited for him to try some real food. We sat him down and put a little in his mouth and instantly, looks of disgust, gaging and spitting it out. He is not a fan of banana. We tried making sure it was warm, a thin consistency and even just mixing a tiny drop of it with his rice cereal. No banana for him. Now that we tried the banana a couple of times with the rice cereal he doesn't even want to eat the rice cereal plain anymore. You would think all babies would like bananas. Maybe we will try some carrots next.

Yum Yum

We gave Owen rice cereal for the first time last night. He was so funny! I put a little on his tray so he could touch it and see what it was with his hands first. He investigated it enough to know he wanted it in his mouth and not on the tray. As soon as I got the spoon in his range for the first bite he grabbed for it and tried to stick it in his mouth. He would laugh, grab the spoon, open up wide and pull it in to his mouth. He had us all laughing. When he was done he went face down on his tray and tried to eat any left overs. He's always loved his food and been a good little eater. Seems like a good way to ring in the new year, for a baby!
