Farmer Owen

My Mom and Dad gave Owen these overalls a few weeks ago. I just couldn't resist taking his picture with his little farm. Those Little People animals are one of his favorite things to play with, especially the horse and sheep. I think he likes them because they have funny textures and are just right for grabbing and sucking on. We always tuck a few in the stroller to keep him company. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa for the overalls!

He makes so many different faces. In that bottom picture you can kind of see that he is sucking in his bottom lip. He does that a lot when he is concentrating and sometimes when he is sleeping. All of the faces he makes have one thing in common, they are just so kissable!

Fun at the park

His hair blowing in the wind, hands gripping tight to the sides, and feet wildly kicking the whole time, quite a sight to be seen on his first swing ride. Mondays are our family day. We went for a stroll downtown, got some ice cream and spent time on the swings at the park. Owen loved the swings! He also loved the puppy on a walk, the boys yelling on the jungle gym and daddy running around trying to make him laugh.

There is a cute little park, near our apartment, that we pass when we go on walks. It will be fun to start taking him there when he gets a little older. He can only really enjoy the swings right now, but I'm sure it won't be long before he's running all over the place.

Play yard

We finally got Owen's little play yard out. Its nice to have a safe place for him to be when I need to do things like cook dinner or put a load of laundry in. He doesn't mind it for a little bit, especially if he can watch what I am doing. He plays with the toys for a little bit and then spends the rest of the time smashing his face up against the mesh.

Yesterday, for the first time, he picked up something small off the ground and tried to put it in his mouth. Luckily I caught him before he actually put it in. We have to watch him even more closely now that he can crawl and put things in his mouth. I remember when I was pregnant I went out and bought a whole bunch of those electrical outlet safety plugs. I promptly put them in every outlet in the whole house. Paul has gone crazy wrestling with them every time he needs to plug something in (for the last year) but now we actually need them!

Exploring his world

Owen has a whole new perspective on the world around him. He has changed so much this last month. He has learned to crawl and pull himself up on things. He went from playing on a little blanket to roam the house. If I leave the room, even for a minute, I come back to him on the other side of the room or pulled up standing next to the couch.

It was such a sweet surprise the first time he gave me that big smile and came crawling to me. Each of those milestones, smiling at you, reaching for you, crawling to you, they melt your heart. It is so cute when he tries to follow me around the house. He is so much fun!

My valentine

Thank you for my sweet yellow wild flowers for my hair, a short lived piggy back ride and lots of laughs. I can't imagine a better valentine than you. You sweep me off my feet. I love you Paul!

Owen's first Valentines Day. We are excited to celebrate with our boy. I have so many fun memories of Valentines day growing up. One memory I have is waking up to a trail of M & M's. I don't remember where they lead, just that there was a special little path for me to follow when I woke up. Sometimes the sweet little things show the most love. This year Owen's valentine is a soft little fabric book with ribbon loops around the edges, silky hearts on each page and the words, "I love you" on the front. Happy Valentines Day sweet boy!

I hope you have a wonderful day with your loves, family and friends! Happy Valentines Day from Christy, Paul and Owen!

Just the three of us

Paul, Owen and I piled our stuff high in the back seat and headed down the road for a family day out. We started the morning out at one of my favorite bakeries and got an iced decaf mocha. We left with some peanut butter cookies and russian tea cakes to nibble on the rest of the day. On our way out of town we stopped on the side of the road to take these pictures in the fresh sunshine.

Owen looks like such a big boy in that first picture. He has recently figured out how to pull him self up, on the chair, the bath and us when we're all on the bed. All he wants to do now is pull him self up on things, stand up tall and look around. He is still likely to go tumbling down at any point so we keep a good hold on him. I cant believe how much he is changing.

I'm off to go put the little bug to sleep so me and Paul can spend some time together.

Frozen Peanut Butter Pie

r
If you like peanut butter this is an amazing desert! I've made it twice now, once for a party and once just for a peanut butter craving, and it was so good both times. Look how creamy and smooth that melted peanut butter looks! Yum! It would be a fun valentines desert! Here is the original recipe. I added the recipe below with a few minor alterations.

Ingredients
2 1/4 cups whipping cream
1 1/4 cups peanut butter (I used creamy once and chunky once, I preferred creamy)
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup bite-size chocolate-covered peanut butter cups, chopped (I substituted with chopped Reese's)
1 chocolate cookie crumb pie shell
6 chocolate-covered peanut butter cups (I prefer the Reese's peanut butter hearts, Every holiday Reese's makes a holiday themed peanut butter cup, trees, hearts, eggs, they have more peanut butter and less chocolate. I ate way to many Reese's peanut butter eggs when I was pregnant!
I also shaved a bit of the chocolate off of a few Reese's to sprinkle on top for extra decoration

Directions
3 easy steps!
1.Combine 1/4 cup of the whipping cream, peanut butter and 1/4 cup of powdered sugar in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until it is a smooth texture. Leave to cool.
2. Combine the remaining 2 cups of whipping cream and remaining 3/4 cups of powdered sugar in a bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
3. Fold cooled peanut butter mixture into the whipping cream mixture. Fold in the chopped Reese's hearts. Spoon mixture into pie shell, sprinkle chopped peanut butter hearts and shavings on top. Freeze for 3 hours.

My baby book

My mom got my baby book out the other day. It was so fun to see the pictures, keepsakes and hand written notes from when I was a baby. We laughed when we saw my height and weight page. When I was 1 years old I weighted 17 pounds and at 6 months Owen weighted almost 18 pounds. I have never really been able to tell who Owen looks like. He just looks like Owen to me. There are times he will make a face or I'll see a picture and think it looks like Paul, my brother or dad. I guess I hadn't seen my baby pictures recently because I was surprised by how much Owen and I looked alike when we were newborns. I especially think the photo of me in the blue dress looks like Owen's little face. The bottom picture is a photo of Owen right after he was born to compare to the "first photograph"of me. Now I'll have to go get Paul's baby book out!

Birchbox surprise

Owen woke up this morning with a fever and I am getting over a cold. When Paul got home from work we decided to take a little stroll to the mailbox to get some sun. I was so excited to see that little key for getting packages in our box. We got the sweetest thing! I had seen my friend Hailey's blog post about sending a little surprise to a friend. I thought it was such a fun idea. I remember thinking the mugs were so cute and that sour candy was a perfect thing for a guy. Much to my surprise when I opened the door there was Hailey's little box of goodies! It defiantly brightened our day. Thank you so much Hailey, Nick and sweet little Rylan! Owen still hasn't stopped shaking those rattles.
